Benefits of Traveling By Train
Traveling by train is one of the best and environmentally friendly ways to
travel around the world.
When you decide to take the train, you can relax in the knowledge that you have
chosen the least polluting means of transportation available in the world today. Travelling via train enables you
to travel in comfort and safety. Trains rarely suffer from delays due to the weather, nor will they give you jetlag
which is common in air travel. In general, train travel does not come with any significant check-in times as do
airplanes, nor will you experience delays due to traffic jams with cars, nor motion sickness when traveling by
boat.
On a train, you can have a nice chat with your friends or even fellow passengers if
you are traveling alone. If you want some quiet time, you could instead read a book, take a nap, watch a movie or
look outside your window and watch the countryside go by. If you want to stretch your legs, you can take a walk
around the train cars; have a drink at the bar or a meal in the dining car. Traveling by train is the best way to
take in the scenery of a country. This journey also gives you valuable time alone where you get to regroup after a
long vacation or a business trip.
If you are backpacking, you will find that trains are the best option to cut down on
costs. This is because you can simply purchase an unlimited ticket with a rail pass and you are good to travel
cheaply for a set period of time. Moreover, by taking the night train, you get to save money on hotel or hostel
accommodation that you would have otherwise had to spend. Most train stations in cities around the world are
located in the city center. As such, you can access them easily without having to pay the extra costs of a
taxi.
Most modern standard train carriages offer reclining seats which enable you to sleep
in relative comfort, which is something that is not easy to do on a crowded bus or plane. Just be sure to take
along a blanket or light sleeping bag with you, and select a seat as far away from the door as possible.
Alternatively, you could opt for the sleeper compartments which range from single to family size, which will allow
you some privacy as well as certain amenities such as a free meal, blankets and bed linen and a complimentary
morning tea or coffee. This will normally cost you around the same amount as you would spend on a hostel room.
If you are traveling with children, you will find that it is much easier for you to
care for the young ones on a train than it would be on a plane or in a car. This is because a train provides a more
relaxing ambience, and your children should find the experience rather fascinating, especially if they are taking
their first train journey ever.
